If you ever worry about forgetting your pre-race gear, then this checklist’s for you.
Running Pre- Race Checklist
Shorts/ pants/ shirt/ shoes/ socks/ gloves: Well, hopefully, you have left the house with all these things on. Because running naked is frowned upon.
You may want to bring some throwaway warm clothes to stay warm at the start. Peel off the layers once you warm up and toss them to the side where they’ll be picked up and donated.
Race bib: It helps to pin your race bib the night before. Or at the last minute, if you roll like that.
Extra safety pins: In case your race bib starts flapping around.
Running watch: Running with a watch will help you stay on pace for your race goals.
Baseball cap: For those sunny (and rainy) days. It gets the sun out of your eyes and the rain off your face. Or if you prefer, sunglasses. The goal is to prevent you from squinting. Did you know that you’ll experience increased tension (and expending more energy) because you’re squinting? Run relaxed and you’ll run well.
Water bottle: There will be water stations but some people like to run with a water bottle to avoid water station bottle necks.
Cash: For places that don’t take credit card, but should.
Hair ties: It would be the worst to forget a hair tie. And maybe some bobby pins for good measure.
Anti-chafe cream: Perhaps in a small reclosable bag.
Running Post Race Checklist
Recovery food: Electrolyte drinks like coconut water, or chocolate milk for carbs and protein.
Compression socks: Get that blood circulation going to speed recovery.
Dry clothes: OR stay in your sweaty race clothes and hug everyone.
