The indoor cycling apps that make cycling fun and motivating

Whether you’re craving friendly competition, guided coaching, or an immersive cycling experience, there’s an indoor cycling app on this list that might suit you.

The indoor cycling apps worth trying

CardioCast: Workouts at Home

CardioCast is great for you if you want a home cycling app for audio-only classes for indoor cycling, running, walking, and more.

You’ll find audio classes that are 20 to 60 minutes long, with new workouts released every week.

Price: 7-day free trial, then $9.99/month; or 7-day free trial, then $89.99/ year

Available for: iOS and Android

Peloton Digital

A Peloton membership is perfect if you want to do it all—indoor cycling, stretching, yoga, running, pilates, and more.

A Peloton Digital membership gives you indoor cycling classes and thousands of other workouts (strength, yoga, running) and programs (such as the Road to Your 26.2).

The good thing is, you don’t have to own a Peloton bike to use the Peloton app.

Without the bike, you won’t see a leaderboard or your workout details (like your power output), but you can still enjoy the wide variety of indoor cycling classes through the app.

You could choose an indoor cycling class by length (5 to 90-minutes), class type (beginner, power zone, intervals), by instructor, or by music playlist (hip hop, classic rock).

Price: 30-day free trial, then $12.99/ month plus tax

Available for: iOS and Android; also available at Amazon app store and ROKU

Zwift

Love computer games? You might enjoy Zwift, the cycling app* that has virtual worlds to explore by bike—Watopia, London, New York, and more.

In Zwift, you’ll find virtual races, social rides, and training programs to help you improve your performance without sacrificing fun.

*Want to run with Zwift? You can, because Zwift is also for runners and triathletes. You’ll need a few pieces of running hardware to get started.

Price: Free for 7 days, then $14.99/ month

Available for: iOS, Android, Mac, Windows

TrainerRoad

TrainerRoad’s system looks at your recent workouts and (using machine learning and science-based coaching principles) suggests the next best workout for you.

That means, even if you’ve missed a few workouts or took a short break, TrainerRoad takes this into account when it’s suggesting your next training session.

Price: USD $19.95/month or USD $189/ year

Available for:  iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS.

ROUVY

ROUVY lets you ride all over the world and race your friends from your indoor trainer.

(For the most immersive indoor cycling experience, consider a smart trainer that automatically adjusts to elevation changes.)

ROUVY has two kinds of routes—augmented reality and virtual.

Augmented reality routes include video recordings of real roads and overlays rider avatars on this road.

In this augmented reality, you’ll get to see who’s riding around you, your stats, and the route elevation.

Need to preview an upcoming race course? ROUVY’s virtual routes can get you acquainted with the climbs, turns, and terrain. You’ll also find over 4,000 virtual routes, which include Ironman courses to Tour de France routes.

Price: 14-day free trial without a credit card, then USD $12/ month (family sharing included, which is free for 2 more members)

Available for:  iOS, Android, and Windows, Mac
